Hugh Rickard
Based in Sumner, Christchurch, with a background in fine arts and landscape painting, I’ve been fortunate to pursue my interest in ceramics since 2000 and now work almost exclusively in that medium.
In general, my pottery and tiles feature designs inspired by nature and specific to the culture and landscape of New Zealand. My work has won many awards and is showcased in galleries throughout NZ.
There is a freedom, to working with clay that is almost unique. When your hands do the work, and the mind steps back – a zen-like moment when the clay works with you, without overthinking the process.
